What is Insomnia?

Suffering from lack of sleep or Insomnia can be very stressful and debilitating and can be caused by many different things. Some physical some emotional.

If it is a physical problem you should try using the three products in our sleep pack as detailed below as hundreds of our patients have received impressive results without the need for visiting the GP or in place of their prescribed medication.

Insomnia can simply be a ‘habit ‘formed from a spell of disturbed sleep, worry or over-activity. In this case trying to break that pattern is essential. Whilst taking the remedies in the sleep pack you should also try and get three or four Aromatherapy massage treatments in the evening for even quicker results, or use Our Insomnia Blend in a bath before bedtime.

What does Conventional Medication offer?

Most Doctors will recommend sleeping tablets or relaxants such as Prozac or Valium. These tablets can leave you feeling very groggy and hung over in the morning, and really only treat the symptom rather than getting to the root cause of your insomnia.

Be aware that if you eat your evening meal early you may be suffering low blood sugar during the night and so a snack before bed would help.

Recently society has become increasingly aware of the effects that long term us of sleeping pills can have and as a result many now look for herbal sleeping remedies as a solution. Whilst conventional tablets can provide short term results for the problem in the long term they often bring more solutions than problems.

Self Help

There are many things you can do to help encourage sleep and here at the Medicine Shop we would encourage you to look at your lifestyle and other factors to see if these are having a negative effect on your health and sleep issues. Why not book in for a personal health consultation and see if we can help you with an individual tailored programme.

Stess, illness, alcohol, anxiety, caffeine and diet can have a big impact on sleep quality and should all be looked at when embarking on taking herbal sleep remedies.

Our Insomnia Programme:

  1. Create a bedtime routine that helps you relax and wind down. – milky drinks or a nightcap do not necessarily have a physical impact on your sleep but can be used as part of a bedtime routine. Have a relaxing bath and reduce your intake of alcohol and caffeine (including tea) in the evening. Try reading a book or listening to relaxing music or relaxation CDs rather than watching television or using computers.  Be aware that if you eat your evening meal early you may be suffering low blood sugar during the night and so a snack before bed would help.

  2. Our Insomnia blend has a very powerful blend of essential oils of Basil, Lavender and Ylang Ylang. As well as providning a relaxing smell these oils have antispasmodic, nervine and sedative properties, thus helping the mind and body to relax before and during sleep. Add drops to your bath in the evening or use in an aromatherapy burner for inhalation during the evening.

  3. Take a herbal sleep remedy. Valerian has been shown to be as effective as the anti anxiety drug “Oxazepan” It is a natural herbal remedy that will not leave you feeling “hung over” like many conventional sleeping tablets. Our tincture also combines Oats and Passiflora to help relax the nervous system and stop the brain ticking over.

  4. A deficiency in calcium and magnesium can lead to insomnia and a break in sleep patterns and so we recommend that you take our Osteo Formula
